stephanie w's fraction growing post part 1 & 2, ( optional part )

You have to find the biggest number that can divide into the numerator and the denomenator evenly, so you can get the fraction in its lowest term.

2.) A mixed number is just a whole number plus a proper fraction. An improper fraction is a fraction greater than or equal to 1. Improper fractions and mixed numbers are similar because they both have more then one whole.

3.) This website explains what equivalent fractions are and how we know when they are equivalent or not. Also shows us how to reduce them into lowest terms. (click here)

4.) a. If I had 3/4 of a bag of cookies and my cousin gave me 1/3 of her cookies, how much candy do we have all together?

4.) b. If I had 2 1/5 left of my pizza and gave my sister 1 2/7 of my pizza how much pizza do i have left?

6.) This website explains how to add and subtract fractions wheather they have the same denomenator or not, and it also shows how to subtract a mixed number from a whole number. (click here)

PART 2

3. This website shows how you multiply fractions. It shows how you multiply in steps so you dont get confused and they explain it well. It gives many examples and at the end it gives you problems to solve. (click here)

5. This websites shows you how to divide fractions. It shows how you divide in steps so you dont get confused and they explain it well. It gives many examples and at the end it gives you problems to try and solve. (click here)

zhettesu's Fraction Growing Post Ins.1& 2

Yay!!! I finished Fractttttttion growing post part one and two!!! I'm so proud... (even thought some of my answers are wrong?) hahahaha.. oh well...!!!

Part 2:

1. Right Answer: 1 4/5. I kinda get it now. My sister helped me and I really feel so stupid. It's just a simple answer cuz there's only 1 five in 9 so there's 4 left and the denominator. So yeah, 1 4/5.

Okay... Mr. H said nothing's wrong. It's just a second verison that uses a completely different thinking...

2.

3. Multiplying Fractions --> This website shows you how to multiply fractions. This also shows the steps on how to do it. It explains some problems like how to reduce it in lowest terms, and how to do the shorcut. (You know like when you multiply high numbers.)

4.

5. Dividing Fractions --> This website shows you how to devide fractions (obviously). It also shows the steps on how to do it. It explains how to devide any numbers in a fraction or a mixed number so yeah...

6. First, I chose Katho's post from 8-17 cuz i think it's simple and really easy to understand. It shows the main point of multiplying and dividing fractions and there's not so much blah blah blah....

Second, I Tyler's post from 8-41 cuz I think his post is so colorful anf full of life... hahahaha... not only that but the explanation is so simple and just like Katho's, you can understand the details he put on it.

Third, I chose Helen's post from 8-16 cuz her post is so beautiful... :) and and and it's so colorful and there's rainbow.. hahahahahaha... okay cuz her post is very detailed and there's a lot of explanation and if ever you get confused, I think just go to helen's post then you'll know how to do your math problem... I think...

And last but not least, I chose Ingrid's post from our room, 8-73 of course cuz her post is so simple and easy to understand just like the others and it's so organized.

7. Let's pretend that these red and green circles are my M&M's. I have 2 friends to divide it with. So how much of green and red M&M's do each of us get?

Like my M&M's? It's doesn't even look like one but watever.

I answered Helen's mother's day problem... and by the way... Happy mother's day.... uhhh... nevermind.

4. A) Hazel bought 3/4 of pepperoni pizza while Darlene has 2/3. If they add it all together, how many slice of pizza do they have?

B) Anne has 6 5/8 pieces of chocolate bars. She gave Zet 2 2/8 of her chocolates. In total, how much chocolate bars Anne have left?

5. commented: Maureen and Allysha [8-73] & Yvanne [8-16]

Scriibe :)

Before we started class, we were given a paper containing the instructions on our next growing post assignment on Fractions. Mr. Harbeck explained what we had to do on this assignment, its a little different compared to the previous one. The first part of the assignment is due on Thursday, May 4th, then we will be recieving the second part of the post. Then we wrote down stuff on Lowest Terms, Mixed numbers and Improper Fractions. We also took notes on 'How to add Fractions' . After that, we were assigned 3 more pages (C-37, C-43, C-44) to do for the rest of the class/homework.

* Growing Post is going to be a little different than the last one on geometry. The last growing post you were expected to add material to your post on a daily basis. This will remain the same. A difference this time is that you will be expected to participate on other people's posts by leaving comments. The questions below are just an outline of what is needed in this post. Feel Free to add other information about fractions.

Fraction Growing Post Instructions Part 1
1. Use a picture and text to show that you understand what expressing fractions in lowest terms means.
2. How are improper fractions and mixed numbers the same?
3. Find a website or blog that explains how to create equivalent fractions or write fractions in lowest terms. Create a link to it and a brief description of what the site has to offer.
4. a) Write a word problem that involves adding these two fractions with the denominators of fourths and thirds and your answer is an improper fraction.b) Write a word problem that involves subtracting two mixed numbers.
5. Go to three peoples growing posts and answer their fraction problems by leaving comments. One of the three people cannot be from your homeroom!!
6. Find a website or blog that explains how to add or subtract fractions. Create a link to it and a brief description of what the site has to offer. Check out other students growing posts. If you like what you see leave a comment telling them what they are doing well. if you notice a mistake leave a comment on how to fix or improve the post.
End of Part 1.
* Due thursday, May 4th.

Layco's fraction growing post

2. They are the same because mixed numbers and improper fractions both have more than one whlole.

3.This site talks about multiplying to create equivalent fractions:

4. a)a guy is ordering a pizza. he asks that it should be cut into fourths because he has four friens coming over for a game. one friend calls and asks if he can bring three friends over. The pizza's and friends arrive but each pizza is missing a piece. how many pieces of pizza are left?
(3/4 + 2/3)

4. b)the same guy is making waffels and invites a friend to join him. he makes 6 whole waffels but one guy only eats 1 1/2 waffles and the other only eats 2 2/3. howmant are left?
(1 1/2 + 2 2/3)

5. I did aldrin's, allysha's and dorito's in 41! hurray 4 me!

6. This site gives you step-by-step instructions on how to add and subtract fractionsand it has its own practice game!

EENNDD OOFF PPAARRTT 1

PPAARRTT 2 COMING NOW!!!!!!!!
1.

.

2.

3.this site is one iss sen befor. it doesn't use alot of words or any picturesbut it pretty much sumarizes what we did in class. it's even got a short test that i dare anyon too try.

4.

5.this site is pretty muchthe same site as tha last. you justread the first couple of paragraphs and you might end up being like aldrin.maybee not that mush but you'lll know everything there is and like last time there is a smalll test with a timer!!!

6.I choose Aldrin from 73 because of all the hard work he puts into his blogg. he probably sits for siix hours straight doing everything other people do that take us maybe less that an hour.

I choose Marielou's from 16 because of all the great pictures! overdoing it but using the spelling mistakes to trick or not was a good idea!

I choose Rebecca G's because she is the farthest ahead (so far) and has pretty pictures (hers maybbe good but aldrin is the KING)

I choose DION from 41 because he has wwwaaaayyy more and better stuff than aldrin and pie! ilke pie! pluss he has lots of cool animations!!!

7.insted of pie ill use cake! so the waffel guy makes a cake he calls over a friend to help eat it. the guy eats 6/36 and the friend eats 18/24. the guy orders a pizza and eats 4 /6 slices the friend eats 24/30 pieces how much did they eat all together? I did Ingrid's problems

Fraction Growing Post Part .... and now PART 2!!!

OMG!!!FRACTIONS!!!
1.
.

2.They are the same because they are still equal the same decimal like say .55

3. Shows and tells what Lowest terms means... and other stuff that has to do wid math http://www.superkids.com/aweb/tools/math/fraction/reducing/howto.sht

4. a.) 3/4 + 2/3= 1 5/12
b.)Unknown man wanted to know how much flour he should put in his batter so her measured it and got 2 1/3 when it's suppose to be 1 1/3. Subtract the two fractions inorder to find out how much flour is the extra amount.

5. commented on: Layco's 8-73, Rebecca.G from 8-17, and........ kahlah120 from 8-41

6. Tells you some tips/info on add.sub. and even multi.and divide for fractions :D There now eveerryybodys' happy :D:P
http://www.superkids.com/aweb/tools/math/fraction/

Part 2:

2.When you multiply fractions the fraction gets smaller.
Example 1): 1/2 x 3/4 = ... You first have to change the fraction 1/2 until u get an equal denominator that 4 could fit into as well as 2 so like this... 1/2 (x each by 2) = 2/4 and 3//4 (x each by 1)= 3/4 then 2/4 x 3/4 ....Now u just multiply going across like this.
1 x 3= 3
} = 3/8, and that's ur answer. ^_^
2 x 4= 8

2) And here is a pictoral example....

3. Here u go the exact sameone me put on the part one, cause' well... it has the same stuff in it already and I already mentioned what it bout.
www.superkids.com/aweb/tools/math/fraction/

4. When u divide ractions they get bigger I think.
Example 1):

P.S. on #4- not sure If I did any of that right or not. :P

5. Once again here is the same site I used for everyone of these q's that have this question... But I'll tell it again it has information ... a bit on how to divide fractions and I think it shows a few examples on it too. It also has stuff on adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. There is even some games u can play but I'm not quite sure if they have on fractions or not.
www.superkids.com/aweb/tools/math/fraction/

6. The 4 people I chose to be in the Growing Post Hall of Fame are...
Ingrid from 8-73, because her pictures are clear and her work is easy to understand, and because I like the little kitty picture at the bottom :P
Michael S 8-17, because his pictures were very clear and easy to see and I could understand almost all of his work. (P.S-u'll have to scroll doen to the bottom to find his post, sry.)
Yvanne 8-16, because I liked the way she did her pictures and they were clear and easy to read & understand. (P.S.- U'll have to scroll down somewhere near the bottom again to find her post :/)
and...
Kim from 8-41, because her work is easy to understand and her pics. r easy to see, and because it looked like she was the only one done...well besides Squeaky_Cheeks 74 but I think that person's was for sumethin else. So yeps. ( Scroll down, I don't think I need to tell u people cause it's like just there.)

7. Okay Unknown dude made 2 piles of his homework, one pile math the other LA. His math pile has 3/4 of work to do while the LA pile contains 4 stuff to do. How much homework does Unknown dude have all together? (REMINDER- Incase u forget, u have to multiply.)

And the person's Q I answered was http://sp873math.blogspot.com/2006/04/zhettesus-fraction-growing-post-ins1-2.html.

8. I chose Ingrid from 8-73 for the Growing Post Hall of Fame.

P.S.S-sry 4 all the p.s' :/
